Topic 3 The Whistle Drill

Description:

This drill may be used for offense and defense in a random chaotic environment. It helps improving the ability to communicate and transition quickly from offense to defense.

Tips:

Emphasis on communication. Practice offense and defence in an untidy setting. Full court or half court may be used.

Instructions:

  • 5-on-5 until the whistle is blown – take your time.
  • After the whistle is blown, the offender holding the ball should place it down. The defender closest to the ball is not allowed to pick it up, someone else on defence must pick up the ball.
  • Once the ball is in the hands of another player, everyone must guard someone else from who was previously guarding them.
  • Keep playing 5-on-5, until the next whistle blow. Repeat.
